Visiting the website
- The site sets no cookies and uses no tracking pixels, advertising or social-media plug-ins. It uses your device's own fonts, and all other files are served from this website itself; your browser makes no requests to other sites while you read it. There is no analytics script.
- The table and signal filters run in your browser. What you type or select is not sent anywhere or stored.
- The site is hosted on Cloudflare. To deliver the pages and protect the site against attacks, Cloudflare processes technical request data such as your IP address, browser type (user agent), the page requested and the time. Cloudflare may process this data outside the European Economic Area; see the Cloudflare privacy policy for how it handles and protects this data and how long it keeps it. Cloudflare relies on its certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework for transfers to the United States, and on standard contractual clauses otherwise.
- To see how much the site is used, we look only at the aggregate traffic statistics in Cloudflare's dashboard (totals such as page views and countries). We do not identify or follow individual visitors.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in delivering a secure, working website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Emails to us
If you email us, for example to submit a correction (mail@abfwatch.com), we use your address and message only to handle your request. We never publish who sent a correction. We delete emails 12 months after the request is handled.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering you and keeping the dataset accurate (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
The dataset
- The tracker records business facts about companies (credit facilities, funders, sizes, dates) taken from public sources: press releases, company and funder announcements, public registers and free trade press. Each row links to its source.
- People named in those sources (for example executives quoted in a press release) are not recorded in the dataset.
- Register signals come from the public UK company register. Where a filing names a private individual, for example as a lender or trustee, the person is replaced with "(individual, not recorded)", and charges held only by private individuals are left out.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest, and the public's, in a free, sourced overview of how European lenders are funded (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Corrections and removal
A company or person who thinks an entry is wrong, or that it contains personal data that should not be there, can ask us to correct or remove it through the corrections page or the privacy contact above. Please name the page or entry and, for a correction, include a public source. We check every request and correct or remove the entry where it is wrong or should not be published.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- ask what personal data we hold about you and get a copy (access),
- have wrong data corrected (rectification),
- have data deleted (erasure),
- have its use limited while a question is settled (restriction),
- object to processing based on our legitimate interest (objection),
- complain to a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the country where you live or work (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).
To use these rights, write to the privacy contact above.
